THE SILVER FAMILY FARM STORY

On August 15th, 2005, we began Earth Art Cashmere and Design, a small farm-gate business which has evolved into a passion and source of perpetual joy. Our farm is located on the Sunrise Trail, in Marshville, Pictou County, in Northern Nova Scotia.

Having left the corporate world to start a simpler way of life, we began, like all first generation farmers, learning by trial and error. We have been incredibly blessed with the support and genuine friendship expressed by local farmers and other fibre industry members. Starting with six Cashmere goats brought in from Northern British Columbia, we, in the past 4 years, have built our herd to top one hundred, ranking us among the largest Cashmere producers in Canada. We are one of, if not the only cashmere farm, which brings the raw fibre to finished garments. We purchase vintage glass beads from all over the world and incorporate them into our exclusive hand-dyed, hand-knit products. The dyes we use are all “exotic” or “historic” dyes which produce amazingly rich and sumptuous colors.

At Earth Art Cashmere and Design
we have been fortunate to employ expert Nova Scotia knitters who pride themselves on knitting in an historic fashion, focusing on lace knitting and pattern design. We carry an array of finished garments including, but not limited to hats, gloves, scarves, stoles, shawls, socks, night-dresses and camisoles. We offer 100% Cashmere (when available) as well as other luxurious cashmere blends. Custom orders are welcomed and we have a large selection of patterns to choose from.

In the summer of 2009, we opened a small store on our farm where we carry not only our own products but other earth derived art pieces as well. We hope to be able to provide links to these incredible products on our website at some point in the near future.

During the summer and fall months we enjoy giving farm tours, educating folks on the cashmere process from beginning to end. There is an opportunity to meet and cuddle hand-raised kids and enjoy the other farm critters as well. The business has afforded us the opportunity to connect with and befriend wonderful people from around the world.  Our barn doors are always open when we are at home and all are welcome to drop by, but don’t be surprised to find yourself surrounded by bleating baby goats!
