EARTH ART CASHMERE

On our farm, usually between February and April, we isolate each individual cashmere goat, place them in a stantion and give them a bucket of grain. As they eat their favourite food they are each lovingly hand combed from tip to tail. Each time this season comes around there is great excitement here on the farm. The gift they offer is the softest natural fibre in the world! There is simply nothing to compare to cashmere’s buttery touch, or its lightness and its warmth.

We comb over 100 goats each season and consider it a great privilege. After combing is completed we find ourselves with about six ounces of raw cashmere from each animal for our year of caring and shelter. This precious fibre is then sent to Prince Edward Island to world class Belfast Mini Mills where Linda and Hazel wash, de-hair, blend and spin the fibre into some of the most incredibly soft lace weight yarn you will ever experience.

The yarn is returned to our home where we hand dye each skein. Garment patterns are selected according to custom orders and the needs of our catalogue stock. Each pattern is packaged with its required yarn quantity and any vintage glass beading to be incorporated into the pattern. These kits are then sent to our expert Nova Scotia knitters who are given artistic licence to incorporate the bead work into the pattern. Garments are created and returned often in less than two weeks.

Because of Earth Art Cashmere farm’s commitment to healthy and stimulated goats, as well as, our insistence on combing rather than sheering, our cashmere is the best there is. Breeding standards help to ensure that only the softest and best cashmere is sold at Earth Art Cashmere & Design.

BLEND QUALITY

Earth Art Cashmere fibre blends are incredible! We insist that if blending is done, then it will only be with fibres that strengthen the natural qualities of our cashmere. We do not compromise in softness, warmth or beauty. Each item will contain a minimum of 33 – 100% cashmere. In the past we have blended with such amazing fibres as Merino wool, and superfine baby alpaca with very pleasing results. Currently, we have blends featuring bamboo and highest quality bombex silk.

At Earth Art Cashmere & Design we sell direct from our farm. We offer a luxury product at the lowest possible prices. There are no retail mark-ups. Because we sell direct, our customers can save as much as 150% from typical retail pricing.
